The rider-height span of every frame size that lists 6'0" (183 cm), in inches. The shaded line is the rider's height; a rider at the edge of two spans sits in both.

Reading the charts at six-foot

At 6'0" the Norco Range and Specialized Crossroads and Specialized Diverge charts list the rider in two sizes, because one size's span ends where the next begins. The brands leave that choice to the rider: the smaller frame is easier to move around, the larger one more stable at speed.

Across the four mountain-bike charts the answer is L or XL: Specialized Fuse L, Specialized Chisel L, Santa Cruz 5010 L, Norco Range L/XL. Letter sizes are each brand's own, so a Norco medium and a Santa Cruz medium are not the same frame.

Checking the fit beyond height

Height charts assume average proportions. Cannondale's method uses inseam instead: "Measure your inseam with your legs 8-10 inches apart and subtract 1-2 inches for crotch clearance." Then compare that stand-over figure with the model's geometry chart and keep 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) of clearance over the top tube. A rider with long legs for 6'0" may suit the larger of two sizes; a long torso and short legs, the smaller with a longer stem.

Either side of six-foot

A five-foot-ten rider reads M or L on the mountain charts. A six-foot-two rider reads XL.

For a six-foot rider these are the brands' published height spans, a starting point for a test ride, not a bike fit. Trek is not listed: its size charts could not be read from Trek. See the methodology.
